2017 Tire Rack Crows Landing ProSolo: Tune In

The SCCA’s second Pro Solo on the west coast kicks off this afternoon with some practice starts at 3PM. Those coming to the site should be aware to enter ONLY on Ike Crow Rd. Set your GPS to the intersection of CA-33 and Ike Crow Rd in Crows Landing CA, then head west on Ike Crow Rd to enter the site (about 1.5 miles). SFR might lose the facility if these instructions are not followed so please be respectful of this request.

At 204 entries, the Crows Pro is going to be a well-attended event with some intense battles going on in a few classes. Here is a highlight of a few of them that you can expect to see some close and heated battles this weekend. See the entry list here.

L1 - 4 entries
Young Kencey Christopher has been really finding a lot of time in the AM-ACME Special and we saw her start picking up speed in Fontana. We expect her to do continue this trend on the higher grip surface look forward to an impressive battle between Clements, Grice and Rowlands.

L2 - 7 entries

With Fontana L2 Winner Kristen Acharya having to cancel this event due to scheduling conflicts, five of the seven entrants in L2 are previous National Champions so we’ll see an intense battle here as L2 never disappoints. Shelly Monfort is an obvious favorite here as she knows the surface well and is a driver with huge prestige. Jami Olerich in the Hernandez Z06 will probably shake things up as a potential second assuming the lights are in favor with her this year. Barbara Leroy-Boehme in her C5 and Tasha Mikko in the Focus RS are definite wild cards this year. Mikko’s advantage will come with the 60 ft’s with the AWD launch and Deana Kelley also does quite well in high grip surfaces. We’ll see how things shake up here. Expect a lot of jumping around throughout the weekends in L2 and a great battle to watch.

L3 - 11 Entrants

L3 is a stacked class as well with Red Jacket and National Trophy winners. We expect to see a furious battle to the tenth happen here and Nicole Wong is showing an aptitude in piloting the “BB86” FRS. Jessica Pao is a definite wildcard, but don’t forget about Lacey Otis (CAMC or STP - not sure which index she will be using), the Berry’s (Lisa and Teresa), along with young Neelu. We’ll see how this lays out, but expect to see some very close racing and a lot of hopping about through the weekend. Like any of the ladies classes, this is too early to call.

BS - 11 entries

Yongzhe, Mikko, and Kahangi will be trying to take advantage of the 4wd launch on the higher grip surface that is Crows Landing, while Acharya will just try his best to stay on tarmac this year.  It will be a fun one to watch as BS sports good variety an Evo, a couple of RS’s, C5 vettes, and Cayman S’s. Ryan Clark and Alex Muresan will be hoping for another top finish here so it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.

CS - 11 entries

Bandes, Coulson, Velandia, and Hayter stand out here as being potential for top honors, but the class is tough to call in this Spec ND class. We’ll see how this weekend play out. Weather should be mighty fine so perfect top down weather!

DS - 7 Entries

Scroggs in that 2016 2.0L Turbo Camaro will be looking for top honors not just in class but also in PAX. Des Toups in a ATS Cadillac along with Rodriguez in the WRX stand out as potential movers and shakers. Stroud in the FRS might also shake things up if there is a more technical side to help balance out the sheer grunt of the other cars.

STX - 17 entries

Always hotly contested we’ll see some pretty impressive driving here. The Tsang brothers, Lugod, Chang, Punch, and O’Blenes will put on an amazing show as they set out all catch the AWD Launch of Chris Thorpe. We’ll see what happens here, but this will be a good one to watch for sure.

STU - 8 Entries

ALIENS EXIST! Haven’t seen one yet? Go see Bryan Heitkotter in STU and he’ll show you why he’s called one. Piloting the 350Z on Nexen’s Bryan took the STU in Fontana. Expect more of the same battles ensuing here, but Au-Yeung is not one to be left out of the fight. Expect the 4wd cars listed here to use every advantage they can against Heitkotter, but we do expect the cheery Bryan to lead the pack here.

STR - 21 Entries

It’s going to be a huge battle here but there are several top names that stand out: Bauer, Munchoff, Yanase, Yom, Schultz, Motonishi, Dietz as a few. STR is always exciting, and hopefully Dietz won’t have axle issues again and Ron Bauer will remember to turn off Hill Assist on the ND to make for intense, close, battles.

CAM- 15 Entries

We’re expecting to see some good battles here, but Healy, Ryker, Cox, and Miranda definitely will not disappoint. Newcomer to the sport, but showing tons of speed of late is Molina in his beautiful GT350R. Big Horsepower and big tires will bring the sound of Freedom to Crow’s this weekend.

R1 - 10 entries

We expect to see some intense back and forth happening here and with Kiesels, Clements, Grice and Christopher in the mix, this will be a good class to watch.

R2 - 9 entries

Justin Moore will be looking to take advantage of this “home” surface, but we can’t leave out Peters and Hogan along with both McKee’s. This will be a good battle of epic 11’s heading up to the lights and awesome STI Launches.
